I was recently lucky enough to spend 3 amazing months backpacking the East Coast of Australia. I had the time of my life and I urge everyone to spend some time experiencing what this incredible country has to offer. To make it easier for you, here are 10 must do activities in East Coast Australia...
1. SKYDIVE IN MISSION BEACH
Prior to my East Coast trip, the thought of skydiving literally made me shake with fear, so you can imagine my surprise when I fell 15,000 feet from the sky and loved every second of it! Mission Beach is the only skydive location in Australia where you land on the beach, and the team at Skydive Australia were so professional and reassuring. This was, hands down, one of the best things I did in Australia.
2. SEE THE BLUE MOUNTAINS
An hours drive from Sydney's CBD, the beauty of the Blue Mountains is unmatched. I spent a day with Wild Life Tours hiking the Blue Mountains and seeing the sunset over The Three Sisters. It was such a hot day and the hike was tough, but it was so worth it!
Welcome to Travel are a Melbourne based tour operator set up by two absolute legends, Adam and Darryl. The team know Melbourne like the back of their hand, so it seemed obvious to begin my trip with their 8 day tour. From walking tours to bar crawls, baby penguins to surfing, the Welcome to Travel family showed me Melbourne's best bits and made each day so much fun. The team also help you get set up with jobs and accommodation (if you have a working visa) and provide amazing travel tips and tricks. If you want to see Melbourne, see it with Welcome to Travel.
4. FIND NOOSA'S HIDDEN FAIRY POOLS
The Noosa coastal walk offers some incredible views of some of Australia's many amazing beaches, but the real star of the show are the hidden (and totally instagrammable) Fairy Pools! The coastal walk is completely sign posted, but when you reach Picnic Cove the search for the hidden pools begins. You need to go slightly off track to reach the pools, but they're quite easy to find. Get there relatively early to get your perfect picture and bring a picnic with you to enjoy on the rocks afterwards!
5. 4WD IN FRASER ISLAND
Australia is home to the world's largest sand island, and what better way to experience it than 4 wheel driving and camping under the stars? I did a 3 day 4WD tag-along experience with Dingo's Fraser Tours and had the best time! Following a lead car, you get to drive to the islands top sights in the day. In the evening, you can chill by the fire, stargaze or head to the campsite club! Fraser is an absolute must.
6. VISIT THE MILLA MILLA FALLS
Ever wished you were in a music video? Now is your time!!! I got to channel my inner mysterious girl at the waterfall that features in Peter Andre's music video. Uncle Brian's Waterfall and Rainforest tour took us to some amazing falls and swimming spots in the Daintree Rainforest and surrounding areas, it was so much fun!!! Oh, the Milla Milla Falls are also famous for the Herbal Essence hair flick, so I obviously had to try it...
7. SAIL THE WHITSUNDAYS
Although it rained the entire time, seeing the Whitsunday Islands was such an amazing experience. There are so many ways to see the Whitsundays, but Ride to Paradise offers a luxurious escape from the backpacking life. We got to stay in the secluded Paradise Cove Resort (where Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise had their honeymoon!) and saw some incredible sights on our 2 day/2 night tour.
8. SNORKEL ON THE GREAT BARRIER REEF
It still feels surreal to say that I've been to The Great Barrier Reef. I spent 2 days, 1 night out there with Divers Den and had an unreal time. Divers Den offer something for everyone, from day trips to 5 day PADI Open Water courses. Still can't believe I was lucky enough to swim alongside turtles and sharks and experience the reef with my own eyes!
9. FEED WILD ROCK WALLABIES
My favourite Australian animal has to be a rock wallaby, and there's so many of them across the East Coast. Rock Wallabies love to eat carrots, sweet potato, grass or wallaby pellets and there is nothing cuter than hand feeding one!
10. SCOOTER ROO
We spent 2 nights in Seventeen Seventy to break up a long coach trip and the Scooter Roo tour was the perfect way to see the town. You learn how to ride a motorbike and ride through the town on your own Harley style bike! It was so much fun, and we even saw some kangaroos on our way back.
